Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Thursday urged the Centre to reimburse the cost incurred on the construction of Polavaram Left and Right Canals.
During their trip to the National Capital Region, the duo called on Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil and explained to him the need to reimburse the entire expenditure incurred on the project. Polavaram multipurpose project, considered lifeline for Andhra Pradesh, has been given the status of a national project as part of promise made at the time of bifurcation.
Naidu, who also met the Central leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda at the swearing-in ceremony of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, said he had requested reimbursement of the cost incurred on construction of the canals and sought all necessary approvals and support to complete the project on a war-footing.
During the talks, support was sought for Polavaram-Banakacherla Linking Project. Naidu said the link will provide drinking water to 80 lakh people and create an ayacut area of three lakh hectares. This project when completed has the potential to earmark 20 TMC to industries.
On his X handle, he stated that they sought the support of Paatil for Polavaram Banakacherla Link Project, which aims to transfer 200 TMC of floodwater from Godavari river through a link canal. "This project will make the State drought-proof, providing drinking water to 80 lakh people, irrigating 3 lakh hectares of new land, supplementing 9.14 lakjh hectares, and allocating 20 TMC of water to industries."
